Chariot Racing was a popular sport in Rome and was appealing to all social classes. Races were held in a Circus so it was named after its oval shape. Roman racing chariots were designed to be as small as possible. Racing chariots were made of wood and afforded little support and protection. The charioteer balanced himself on the axle as he drove. This was not a safe sport by any means. The cermonies were always beautiful filled with dancers, acts, and tons of people. This was an event everyone could enjoy. When the races were finally over the winner was presented with a "palm branch" and the color around the charioteers waist represents if he has drivin in the Green faction or how much experience he has. If I was alive in this period i would of loved to see these events. Today its like football or wrestling to us.
